Course Notes - Planets

Planet mapPlanets are the gold of the galaxy: the more planets you have the more resources you can mine and refine and use to build all the different things you need to crush your enemies.

Planets have two things which you want and need: energy and resources. Energy is used to power all system-based buildings the more energy the more buildings you can have in a system.

Resources are the limit of mines you can have in a system.

The best thing to do is to let the droid handle all the system resources. This lets you use your time for more interesting things.

There are two main ways of organizing your construction facilities.

Spread them out
This means having Shipyards, construction yards and troop training facilities in every sector.

Good points

  • If you lose one sector you have only lose part of your facilities
  • If is harder for the enemy to find all of your facilities

Bad points

  • You have do more work both in building them and keeping them active
  • They are harder to defend

Keep them central
This means keeping most of your facilities in one sector with a few construction yards dotted around.

Good points

  • Very easy to build and keep active
  • Very easy to put fleets together quickly
  • Easy to defend

Bad Points

  • If they are destroyed it takes along time to rebuild
  • If you need a ships or troops in another sector quickly there is a delay for the transit time
  • It is quite easy to find one main base

Defending your assets
So you have set out everything but how do you protect your planets? There are two main ways, neither of them is perfect but together will they stop almost any attack. First, on all major planets which need a high level of protection place TWO shields on it. This will stop ground assault and any fleet attacking will have to be huge to break through

Second, use your fleets to stop attacks.

If you use both of these, even big fleets will have trouble attacking your worlds, but remember on say, your Shipyard System: if you use system energy for shields, you will have less for shipyards.

I personally have planets with 6 or more shipyards/construction yards/training facilities hidden in the outer rim. I always give it two Level II shield generators, one LNR Series II battery and if room a KDY Ion Cannon (as they make it easier to escape if need be).

As with all the game the key is balance.
