Course Notes - Blocking/Warning Users
So,
what if someone is bothering you, what can you do? Well you can either Ignore
them completely, or warn them. To be honest, I've not seen that warning has
any adverse affect on the offender, it seems useless. But, to warn, just click
"Warn Buddy' in the AIM IM dialog box. You can choose to either warn anonymously,
which gives a lower warning percentage, or warn them normally, which gives a
higher warning. In theory, once a person reaches 100% they are supposed to be
suspended from AIM for a few hours, but it doesn't seem to work.
To
ignore a buddy(commonly called "Iggy"), just click 'Block' in the
IM dialog box. You can also block users who you aren't currently talking to,
it just takes a bit more effort. Click on 'My AIM', then 'Edit Options', then
'Edit Preferences'. Click the 'Privacy' tab. From there you can manage fully
who can and cannot contact you.
